Some people believe that the holidays are a free for all to eat anything that you want as much as you want. I don’t believe that . I do believe that this is why so many people have the new years resolution to “get healthy” after the holidays. I have some ways that will help you keep to this year’s resolution of “getting healthy” assuming that you’ve made it this far. Kudos if you are still on your journey and pushed through for the last 11 months. How to stay fit during the holiday season with these few tips.
What are your triggers?
The most important thing to staying successful on your journey is to know your triggers. Example, for me I have/ had a huge sweet tooth. So instead of mom’s banana pudding that I could eat the entire pan of and have extras I will opt for a slice of apple pie or something else that I know will staid=sfy the need for something sweet but not set me back. Do you know your trigger? Is it lack of sleep? Set an alarm clock to “Go to bed” Is it finding time to work out? Park as far away from your destination as you feel comfortable and walk to your location. Is it family? Oh boy, sorry, I don’t have anything for that one… Pray.
Get enough rest.
I’m not talking about the nap after the turkey dinner. I’m talking about consistent rest. This is the time of year where it is extremely important to get your rest in because we are all running 90 mph. I struggle so hard in the “enough sleep” area. It is reported that 30-48% of adults have sleep insomnia.
Schedule your workouts and stick to the schedule.
Take a little extra time to schedule and do your workouts, you will be so happy that you did. If you work out solo (like I prefer) now is a good time to have an accountability partner to keep one another accountable in your workouts.
Make adjustments if necessary. If you just cannot find time to get a workout in at least get the 10000 recommended steps in. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park in a further parking spot at Target instead of driving around to find one near the door. While in Target, walk the perimeter of the store instead of going directly to your aisle. But avoid all temptations to put everything in your cat. IF, you just so happen to put some clothes in your cart then burn a little extra calories by trying them on.
Get outside
Do an outdoor activity with the family. Ice skating, sledding, and family football are all great family activities that will have you burning a few calories to.
Don’t be so hard on yourself
If you do not get in every workout or every hour of sleep that you would like it is okay. We tend to beat ourselves up on the things that we have not accomplished instead of acknowledging the things that we did achieve.
