I’m not sure about you but I absolutely love it when I have a plan. I like the feeling of accomplishment and I can only have that feeling when I create a plan. With planning I save time, feel more productive and create balance. My favorite is checking items off of my to so list (which is a part of my planning process). This is the process of how I easily plan my week like the badass that I am and how you can to.
I like to sit down at my desk and immediately know what it is that I am supposed to work on. I use Sundays as my prep day to get me ready for the week.
I begin each “planning session” with a brain dump.
BRAIN DUMPING
Brain dumping allows you to get any thoughts out of your head and onto paper. The way that I found it to be successful is to set a timer for 90 seconds (or however long) and just dump. Write down EVERYTHING that comes to mind. Once the timer stops, look it over to see all the things that you’ve thought about. Cross out anything that is not important.
SELF CARE IS THE BEST FORM OF CARE
Now that your brain dumping session is complete take a moment to put yourself first. To truly plan your week like a badass you HAVE to block out time in your schedule to do a little self care. That can come in any form, read a book, listen to music and dance, watch a movie, lock yourself in a bedroom away from everyone, take a trip to Target, candlelit bath, the list can go on but the point is to take schedule some time to do you! Make yourself your top priority!
MEAL PLAN
A badass will definitely have a meal plan… On Fridays I begin to think about what we are having for dinner next week so that I can go to the grocery store anytime over the next couple of days. Mondays are usually the best day for me but I do it when time permits and it varies from week to week. This is an opportunity to get the family involved by allowing everyone to choose a meal or having themes days such as Taco Tuesday, Pizza Fridays, Burger Saturdays (or whatever cutesie name you can come up with) and so on
ON SUNDAYS WE PLAN
Sundays are for planning and preparing for the week ahead. You can do this by chopping fruit and veggies (assuming that you did your grocery shopping) work it all depends on what habits you form.
SET UP YOUR CALENDAR
I have tried having two planners, one for business an one for personal. That did not work well for me, lots of things fell through the cracks, and let’s face it, who wants to walk around carrying and flipping through two planners?
- Plan work and home life together.
- Schedule your workouts.
- Plan your self care time. Having a birds eye view of the week will help you feel mentally and emotionally prepared for the work ahead.
- Time Block Your Priorities first (self care, as mentioned above) then fill Your Schedule With Smaller Tasks.
- Let Go of Unimportant Task. This is why the brain dumping activity is so important.
- Make Your Schedule Flexible, take into account that not everything goes smoothly, flat tires happen, traffic happens, illnesses happen. Let go of unimportant tasks, and give yourself grace, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
THINK ABOUT WARDROBE
Do your laundry, organize your drawers and closet. Take a look at weather and plan accordingly. When we are transitioning seasons I even write the weather in my planner that way I know what to expect. Doing this eliminates the task of thinking about it daily
CREATE YOUR TO DO LIST AND TOP 3
Create a weekly to do list and the TOP THREE thing that MUST get done. Creating a weekly list (can use your brain dump session to help create this list).
GO TO BED AT A REASONABLE TIME EVERYDAY.
Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial to your success and trust me when I say this because I have insomnia. When I have a good night of sleep I accomplish so much more. Set an evening alarm to get off of devices, calm your spirit down (my favorite is to have a glass of hot tea and light a candle) and decompress so that you can get to bed, wake up tomorrow refreshed and you can crush the day.
BE REALISTIC
We do all have the same 24 hours in a day however everyone’s lives are different. You have to figure out what will work best for you in your 24 hours that will get you to where you want to be and you have to put forth the effort to do it.
Lesson learned…
I did a little experiment. For two weeks in a row I did not plan my meals, I didn’t prepare my week, I didn’t prepare my smoothies, I just kind of winged it, you know.
Let me tell you what I’ve discovered… That is not for me!
My mind was all over the place I didn’t know where to begin, I didn’t know what to begin, I didn’t know where I left off, I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t eat as much as I usually would have (because you know, I want to be big and strong ๐๐๐), I didn’t have my post-workout smoothie. I was a complete mess!
And what I DO know for sure is that I will continue to prepare for the week. What is your process to plan your week like a badass? Shoot me a comment to let me know.
