We all experience stressful times in our lives and it affects each individual in a different way. Stress affects the mind and the body. When stress rears its ugly head it can come in the form of physical (headaches, body aches and other illnesses) or emotional such as depression and anxiety. It has a way of creeping up and making an impact on the way we run our lives. Learning to cope with and manage stress when we are going through it will allow us to continue to live life in a way that allows us to function in some normalcy. Here lies my 5 things to do when you are stressed out.
A bubble bath
Taking a bubble bath when you are stressed is very relaxing. Submersing yourself in hot water relaxes not only the body but the mind. Take it up a notch by adding your favorite music, a candle and a glass of wine. When my daughter was young and I was married I did this EVERY FRIDAY because neither my (ex)husband or daughter were home. Fridays were the highlight of my week.
A walk/ workout
working out when stressed helps clear the mind of frustrations. Creating time to get a workout in when you are stressed improves blood flow and helps to take your mind off of its worries. The next time you are feeling a little stress try hitting the gym or taking a brisk walk. Partaking in the activity of working out releases endorphins “endorphins make you happy”. Working out gives you more energy and improves your overall health.
Phone a friend
Do you have that one friend that makes you happy every time that you hear their voice? If not you need to find a friend like that lol. When you are stressed you need someone who you can vent your frustrations to but you also need that friend that will make you laugh. Surrounding yourself with funny people can reduce stress levels. Laughing will not only lift your spirits but it will boost your energy… Don’t have a funny friend? Instead try watching a comedy or reading a funny book, even going on TikTok can give you the chuckle that you need to change your mood.
Journal
Journaling is a great way to relieve stress. Expressing gratitude and thinking about goals are ways to ignite excitement in the mind. When we feel overwhelmed or have a lot going on internally journaling can assist in reducing stress levels.
Coffee/ a glass of wine
Grab you a cup of Joe or a glass of wine (don’t do the most with the wine, notice I said a glass not a bottle) if you can enjoy with a friend even better. Enjoying your favorite beverage can reduce some stress levels (this is not a proven fact) because sipping on something that you enjoy can take your mind off of the thing that has you stressed out, even if for a minute. This is not the answer to stress relief so I do not advise turning to an alcoholic beverage to help you. I am simply saying that indulging in a (single) glass of your favorite wine can take your mind off your stress.
Stress comes and goes, it’s a part of life. Finding ways to alleviate stress is so important. I would always recommend working out because it is so beneficial to every area of your well-being. However you choose to handle your situation please consider these 5 things to do when you feel stressed out.
